WWW (12) and Waiting on Wednesday (August 24th, 2011) Double Feature

W. W. W. Wednesday is hosted by Should Be Reading a great YA blog that I subscribe to. Here's how it works... Each Wednesday I will answer the following questions:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you'll read next?

I've had a great reading week.  I gave five stars to every book I read and the three of the five I have going now will likely get five stars as well.  I wish I always had weeks like this!  :) I'm participating in a Read-a-Thon this week, so hopefully I will get a lot of books read (I'm so very competitive).  For info or to join us, follow this LINK.

What are you currently reading?

Sweetly by Jackson Pearce~ Absolutely phenomenal as far as I can tell.  I'm only 100 or so pages in, but I think this is her best book yet!

Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce~ A re-read because I love it.  I started it because Sweetly was coming out (yesterday).  Almost done.  I think it might be better the 2nd time around.
Across the Universe by Beth Revis~ I'm listening to the audio of this fabulous book because I heard it was awesome. I heard right!  Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Torchwood) is the voice of Amy and she is fabulous; the boy who reads Elder is good too.  Perfect casting.
Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes~ Reading this to my younger daughter at night.  Not loving it at all, but she seems to...
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More by Roald Dahl~ Reading this to my son.  He's obsessed with Roald Dahl.  So far, so good...

What did you recently finish reading?

Bumped by Megan McCafferty~ In a word? Awesome!  The humor is great; kind of twisted, which I love.  Definitely a must-read for high school aged girls.

Red Glove by Holly Black~ Loved White Cat.  Loved this even more.  Cassel Sharpe is my new book-crush.  Can't wait for the release of Black Heart!

Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer~ WOW!  I could not put this down.  It was much better than Nightshade (which I gave 5 stars).  My review will be up today or tomorrow.
Divergent by Veronica Roth~ One of my favorite books of 2011.  I caved and read ahead of my daughter (shh!- we're supposed to be buddy reading it).  I lasted until final quarter of the book, and then I couldn't wait.  I'm acting surprised now...

What do you think you'll read next?

Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix~ She'll be at the Decatur Book Festival, and I haven't read this series yet, but have been wanting to.  What better time than now?
Ashfall by Mike Mullin~ This is my next buddy read with Emma.  I've heard great things and I have a review copy.  Since we both loved Life As We Knew It, I figured we would enjoy this.

The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab~ Another author who is coming to Decatur and whose book I've been wanting to read.  It's supposed to be great!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is another fun blog event. Hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, this event gives us a chance to talk about the books we anxiously await the release of. Since there is ALWAYS a looooooong list of books I'm waiting on (I actually keep a spreadsheet), I figured this is one that I MUST do.

I wanted to do Insurgent by Veronica Roth for my WoW this week, but since there is no cover yet, I'll wait. (Remember?  Cover-Whore here.)  So-- I'm going to do another book I'm super excited for, and that would be...

After the Snow by Sophie Crockett

A stunningly beautiful novel about a young boy’s survival during a winter that never ends.
2059. The snow begins to fall. Only the few are prepared. A new ice-age has begun.
Born after the snows, fifteen-year-old straggler kid Willo Blake has never known a life outside hunting and trapping in the hills. When his family mysteriously disappears, leaving him alone on a freezing mountain, Willo sets off into the unknown to find them.
Meanwhile, across Britain, outlawed followers of survivalist John Blovyn are planning an escape to the fabled Islands talked of in a revolutionary book.
When Willo meets an abandoned girl on his trek across the hills, his world collides with outlaws and halfmen on an epic journey that leads him to the new world of the city - a place where the dog spirit inside his head cannot help him.
It is a journey of betrayal and violence. A journey of awakening love and humanity. A journey that changes everything he ever thought he knew.

I am a fan of apocalyptic disaster stories.  Especially those that are weather related (Life As We Knew It, Trapped); they just seem so plausible to me.  Add to that the fact the I grew up in snow-country (Buffalo, NY) and this is an intriguing book for me.  A new ice age?  Yes. Please. Just not in real life.

What are you waiting on?

  3. After the Snow sounds awesome! I also love post-apocalyptic books (although they kind of freak me out). It's definitely going in my TBR list!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I adore comments since they make me feel special and loved, just please don't spam me. I'm not interested in vacation offers, millions of dollars from Nigeria, or anything not book related!

Also, this is an award-free blog. As flattered as I am, I just don't have time. I'm happy if I have time to post all of my reviews on time, and am a momma of three to boot, but I appreciate the thoughts! XO
