Review: Human.4 by Mike A. Lancaster

Human.4Publisher: EgmontUSA
Publication Date: March 8th, 2011

Kyle Straker volunteered to be hypnotized at the annual community talent show, expecting the same old lame amateur acts. But when he wakes up, his world will never be the same. Televisions and computers no longer work, but a strange language streams across their screens. Everyone’s behaving oddly. It’s as if Kyle doesn’t exist.

Is this nightmare a result of the hypnosis? Will Kyle wake up with a snap of fingers to roars of laughter? Or is this something much more sinister?

Narrated on a set of found cassette tapes at an unspecified point in the future, Human.4 is an absolutely chilling look at technology gone too far.

I picked this book up for one reason, and one reason only... The cover.  It's freaky and awesome and totally gross, all at the same time.  I am a science-nerd, and this looked right up my alley.  Yes, yes.  I know.  Don't judge a book by it's cover...  I do though.  I can't help it.  Sometimes I get burned, but more often than not, I like the book.  Fortunately, the latter was the true in this case.

If you like sci-fi, you are in for a treat!  This book is a sci-fi as they come.  Initially, I thought I knew exactly what was going on, and I thought I was on the road to a predictable disappointment.  I couldn't have been more wrong.  The ending of this book was so far beyond the scope of anything I could have thought up on my own, and that is what made it great.  I gave it four stars for this reason.  It keeps you guessing and turning pages until the very end.  Really intriguing!

I'm not going to spoil this book for you and give you any more information than I have.  Is it a must read?  Depends on who you are. If you like sci-fi, and/or technology, and are kind of a nerd like I am, you will LOVE this book.  If you read a lot of contemporary fiction, romance, etc., you may want to skip it.

My Rating:   ★ ★ ★ ★

Grade Level Recommendation:  There is no objectionable content in this book.  Fine for middle grades and up (3rd+).

Thanks for visiting my blog! I adore comments since they make me feel special and loved, just please don't spam me. I'm not interested in vacation offers, millions of dollars from Nigeria, or anything not book related!

Also, this is an award-free blog. As flattered as I am, I just don't have time. I'm happy if I have time to post all of my reviews on time, and am a momma of three to boot, but I appreciate the thoughts! XO
