WWW (14) and Waiting on Wednesday (September 14th, 2011) Double Feature

W. W. W. Wednesday is hosted by Should Be Reading a great blog that I subscribe to. Here's how it works... Each Wednesday I will answer the following questions:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you'll read next?

I've been on a roll with the books lately, loving almost all of what I've read recently.  So many much anticipated books have come out over the past few weeks, that I have a ridiculous pile on my nightstand.  I could have worse problems...

What are you currently reading?

All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin~ If you've been following me long, you know that this is one of my most anticipated new releases of 2011.  I'm about four chapters in and it's good.  Very good!  I'll be doing a giveaway of the audio version very soon, so stay tuned!
The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore~ I don't want to say I'm disappointed, because I'm only 100 or so pages in, but I'm having a pretty difficult time getting into this book.  I loved I Am Number Four, so I'm really hoping this gets better!

What did you recently finish reading?

Ashfall by Mike Mullin~ This book is awesome!  Gritty and often terrifying, but very, very awesome.  I'm going to post my review in about a week, but know that this is a must-read!  Releases October 11th.
Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz~ My first read by her and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I'm definitely going to check out her other books.  Review coming soon!

Stolen by Lucy Christopher~ Wow.  So well done!  I'll be posting my review of this during Banned Books Week (September 24th-October 1st), so stay tuned.

Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik~ Loved it! A great modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice.  I think Jane Austen would be proud!  A runner-up on my list of Top Ten YA Books of 2011.  Review to come.

What do you think you'll read next?

It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han~ I've been meaning to read this since I read The Summer I Turned Pretty over the summer.  I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see where the story goes.

Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs~ I've been anxiously awaiting this for ages.  Now I have it and can't wait to get started!

Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick~ This just came out and I've had the ARC for while, so I should probably review it.  I've heard GREAT things!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is another fun blog event. Hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, this event gives us a chance to talk about the books we anxiously await the release of. Since there is ALWAYS a looooooong list of books I'm waiting on (I actually keep a spreadsheet), I figured this is one that I MUST do.

Whit and Wisty Allgood have sacrificed everything to lead the resistance against the merciless totalitarian regime that governs their world. Its supreme leader, The One Who Is The One, has banned everything they hold dear: books, music, art, and imagination. But the growing strength of the siblings' magic hasn't been enough to stop the One's evil rampage, and now he's executed the only family they had left.

Wisty knows that the time has finally come for her to face The One. But her fight and her fire only channel more power to this already invincible being. How can she and Whit possibly prepare for their imminent showdown with the ruthless villain that devastated their world-before he can truly become all-powerful?

In this stunning climax of the epic Witch & Wizard series, the stakes have never been higher-and the consequences will change everything.

There have been a lot of mixed reviews about this series, but I personally, really enjoyed the first two books,Witch & Wizard and The Gift.  I loved the blend of fantasy and dystopia, and thought it really made for a unique reading experience.  When I found out that this was going to be released this December, I was thrilled.  I can't wait to find out what happens to Whit and Whisty next!  I know a lot of people think James Patterson churns books out too quickly to ever be considered a literary genius, but the entertainment value is enough for me, and I think these books actually offer up food for thought (I love the leader of their world's name, "The One Who Is the One"!).  I will likely do a Before the Blog post about the first two books in November, so keep an eye out... Also, I think the covers in this series are some of my favorites ever.  Check them out!  I love the protagonists' faces in the flames.

  9. I didn't love the first one, but in it's defense I did listen to the audiobook so that could always be why. There are plenty waiting on it though!!

Our WOW pick is at Book Sake.

  10. Does anyone really believe James Patterson writes his own books now? I don't. Most of his books have co-authors and I'm sure they're the primary writers. He just checks them over and signs his name, probably.

I loved "I Am Number Four." I've been hesitant to read "The Power of Six." I know the real author is not involved in the series any further and who know who's writing the books now. I figured they wouldn't be as good and based on your statement it looks like my feelings were right, I'm sad to say. I'll probably still check it out, but maybe I'll borrow it from the library. Thanks for the tip!

  11. Ugh, I am not a big fan of James Patterson, mostly because of the Maximum Ride series. But I'm glad you're liking his books!

Also, I hope you're enjoying All These Things I've Done, and you MUST read It's Not Summer Without You! It's sooo good. :)

Thanks for visiting my blog! I adore comments since they make me feel special and loved, just please don't spam me. I'm not interested in vacation offers, millions of dollars from Nigeria, or anything not book related!

Also, this is an award-free blog. As flattered as I am, I just don't have time. I'm happy if I have time to post all of my reviews on time, and am a momma of three to boot, but I appreciate the thoughts! XO
